This painting of the Salzach River on a winter night not only honors the beauty of nature but also the spiritual depth of "Silent Night." The Salzach River was chosen for its historical significance, as the hymn was first performed along its banks in 1818, during a time of upheaval. The river itself expresses the same peace as the rhythm and tone of Silent Night. Written as a prayer for peace, the carol’s message echoes Isaiah 9:6, where the birth of the “Prince of Peace” is proclaimed. The peaceful river scene at night contrasts with the darkness of human suffering, offering hope through its serene, wintery stillness.
